Controversy about Alistair Begg and Gay Weddings?

Image
Last week, Alistair Begg got himself into hot water.  His ministry, Truth for Life, posted a video which included his advice to a grandmother concerned for a grandchild trapped in the transgender lifestyle.  Moreover, this grandchild is getting married and has hopefully invited the grandmother to the wedding. Begg the grandmother two questions.   He asked her if she had expressed her disapproval of the lifestyle, and he asked if she had expressed disapproval about the wedding.   The grandmother said she had on both accounts.   His advice, therefore, stunned the grandmother: He told her to attend the wedding with a gift in hand! We can all sympathize with the drive to be as loving as possible, but let’s back up and consider a few points.   Christians look at Scripture and see biblical prohibitions against practically every expression on the current LGBTQ+ spectrum.   From both the Old Testament and the New, passages condemn such behaviors as deviations from normal creation.   Moreov

“Discipleship: Die to Live” ( John 1 2:20–26) Series:               “John: Life in Christ’s Name”           Text:                 John 12:20–26 By:                    Shaun Marksbury                         Date:                January 28, 2024 Venue:              Living Water Baptist Church             Occasion:             AM Service   I.               Introduction I’ve been thinking a lot about books and stories I’ve enjoyed, and I came back around to C. S. Lewis’s The Chronicles of Narnia .   Some of you have watched the movies, which always leave some room for improvement in the minds of book lovers.   One of the parts that hasn’t captured in film, though, was the final book of the series, The Last Battle. In the story, everyone hears that there’s a problem in Narnia and seek to return.   That is, all of them except Susan.   She is no longer counted among the friends of Narnia.   The narrative presents her as having lost her belief and interest in Narnia

This week, we begin to consider the beginning of the NT: the four Gospels. This Session: The Anticipation of the Messiah The Presentation of the Messiah II. SERMON: The Historical View of Abortion

The Historical View of Abortion Series:               Pro-Life Messages                           Text:                 Exodus 21:22–24 By:                    Shaun Marksbury                         Date:                January 21, 2024 Venue:              Living Water Baptist Church             Occasion:             AM Service   I.               Introduction What is abortion?   We could describe it as ending a pregnancy, but that is not the definition that most people use when they refer to this subject.   For instance, a miscarriage is sometimes referred to as a “spontaneous abortion,” but there is no one who thinks of this when they are debating the ethics of abortion, unless they are playing a semantic game to muddy the waters of the discussion.   Typically, folks think of abortion this way: It is a premeditated act to intentionally cause the death of an embryo or fetus, otherwise known as a baby within the womb, with the goal to directly end a pregnancy
